Accessing the job market

Find the job you want!

There are many employment opportunities for international students in Quebec.

On-campus work

You may work without a work permit on the campus of your educational institution as long as you meet the following two requirements:

  1. you have a valid study permit
  2. you are a full-time student

Off-campus work

The off-campus work permit program allows foreign students in all Quebec regions to work off-campus. International students may work a maximum of twenty hours per week during regular sessions and full time during breaks in the academic calendar (e.g., spring break, summer vacation, Christmas break).

To learn how to obtain a work permit, visit the Web site of the Ministère de l’Immigration et des Communautés culturelles.

Internships

Co-op work programs (alternating work and study) and internships are excellent ways to acquire concrete work experience in your field of study. However, you must first obtain a work permit (free of charge). To learn more, consult the Study Guide of Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

Post-graduation work

How can you acquire Canadian work experience after you graduate? You may be authorized to work here one year after you complete your studies. To apply for a work permit, consult the Student Guide of Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
