Mercier — Hochelaga-Maisonneuve

Neighbourhood profile

The Mercier—Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough is a traditionally working-class neighbourhood in the east end of Montreal. It is easily recognizable thanks to the Olympic Stadium, built for the 1976 Olympic Games. The stadium’s impressive tower is an internationally recognized symbol of Montreal. Mercier—Hochelaga-Maisonneuve is also home to attractions such as the Biodome living museum and the magnificent Château Dufresne museum.

This residential neighbourhood offers a pleasant living environment. The cost of housing is generally lower here than elsewhere on the Island of Montreal, and its proximity to the Maisonneuve Market, with its wealth of fresh produce, is a definite advantage. Parks are abundant here as well, including the Bellerive Promenade, the ideal place for hiking or biking. As everywhere else on the island, there are numerous municipal facilities: community gardens, soccer fields, and sports centres.
